Fort Sam Houston Golf Club started in 1935 in San Antonio, Texas, USA. It originally included 36 holes with 2 courses of 18 holes. The two courses are La Loma and Salado Del Rio with a par of 72.
A. W. Tillinghast was the main designer of La Loma in 1935. He was one of the most prominent golf course architects. He designed around 265 golf courses in all. Another course the “Salado Del Rico” golf course was designed by Kevin Tucker.

Many lavish amenities are available in this golf club. They include practice chipping, a lighted driving range, and storage space for private carts. Some other amenities also cover rental carts and pull carts.

Interesting facts about Fort Sam Houston Golf Club

Fort Sam Houston Golf Club was first designed in 1900 with the help of coffee cans for game holes. It was further designed by adding 9 holes by patients of Brooke Army Medical Center. Between 1935 and 1937, the golf club received its first 18 holes.

Soldiers designed the first 9 holes of the golf club. The charge was minimal every month for the golf players. It was only $2 every month at that time.

The other 9 holes were made later in 1965 by Gen. Ralph Mace and the last 9 were added by Ralph Plummer. After a long time in 2007, the Kevin Tucker Group renovated the golf course. This golf course was further divided into 2 courses- La Loma and Salado Del Rio after adding 9 final holes.

Fort Sam Houston golf course has an elegant clubhouse after 20 years. This clubhouse was developed by Larson/Kramer of Chicago in 1994.

This course has several elevation changes, bunkers, and a host of oak and mesquite trees. It is one of the best practice areas including features like a putting green, driving range, and lob wedge practice greens.
